Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a full-time HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with demonstrable Histology experience to join our dedicated and busy team in Leicester. Candidates are required to hold the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology; a successful candidate without this portfolio would be required to study for and attain this qualification.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in all areas of the laboratory including the primary diagnostic section comprising specimen reception, dissection and section production ( embedding, microtomy & quality control) as well as our specialist section which includes immunohistochemistry (automated), electron microscopy and enzyme histochemistry.
You will be a well motivated, proactive team member who is able to prioritise and work on your own initiative with minimal supervision. You must be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, a flexible approach to work in line with the Trusts agenda for service reconfiguration and improved patient care and be capable of working accurately and efficiently under pressure.
The department operates a voluntary out of hours technical on-call service.

Job responsibilities- Carry out all laboratory analyses associated with the post, including reporting results, maintaining appropriate records and documentation.
- Undertake specialised analytical work in designated areas of the department.
- Participate in the departments rosters as required.
- Undertake quality control procedures, examine quality control results to identify poor performance and instigate appropriate action.
- Take delegated responsibility for the quality control, operation, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Assist with the production, maintenance and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Give appropriate advice to colleagues and or clinicians regarding the appropriateness of samples or assays
