We are looking for an experienced Community Physiotherapist to cover 8 months of maternity leave until March 2027. You will join the Integrated North Lancashire Community Therapy & Rehabilitation Team, currently based from the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
The service works closely with in-patient therapy teams, hospital discharge teams, Integrated Care Communities, local GP's, Adult Social Care and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. The service supports people with a wide variety of conditions including elderly care, frailty and falls, orthopaedics and long-term condition management.
Main duties of the jobWorking together to deliver care to patients you will need to:
- work as an individual within the community therapy team undertaking specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with frequently complex problems in their own homes, residential and nursing care homes.
- have completed a range of core rotations within the NHS as a physiotherapist with a desire to develop your clinical skills further
- demonstrate and evidence your own professional development
- demonstrate your ability to work independently when necessary
- have a friendly and flexible attitude, which is patient focused and dedicated to quality care
- use your expertise to supervise and teach physiotherapy students and other staff within the service
About usWe operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person SpecificationEducation & QualificationsEssential- Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist
- Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/Health and Care Professions Council
- Evidence of relevant post graduate specialist clinical education
Desirable- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
ExperienceEssential- Comprehensive rotational experience as a Staff grade in the core competencies within physiotherapy - elderly care, musculo-skeletal, neurology, orthopaedics and cardio-respiratory care
- Experience of working in the UK NHS
- Be able to demonstrate awareness of elderly rehabilitation
- Experience of effective working within a team
Desirable- Previous experience of working in the community setting
Skills, Ability, KnowledgeEssential- Evidence of effective written communication skills in English in a variety of settings
- Evidence of commitment, motivation and adaptability
- Understanding of legal responsibilities within the profession
- Good communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to liaise effectively within the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to motivate patients and other staff
- Basic IT skills
- To have a knowledge of audit tools and awareness of organizational and clinical standards in Physiotherapy
- Demonstrate good time management skills
- Be able to travel around the North Lancashire area as part of work duties independent of public transport
- Ability to think quickly and independently, assess clinical situations and make decisions from that information within expected capabilities
- Must demonstrate a knowledge of team / group dynamics and understand the role of a Specialist Physiotherapist within the team
