You will lead the development and delivery of undergraduate medical education within Elderly Medicine at RLI. You will work closely with the undergraduate team to develop, deliver and quality assure educational programmes which will support medical learners to develop their clinical and communication competencies.
Main duties of the jobYou will lead the development and delivery of undergraduate medical education within Elderly Medicine at RLI. You will work closely with the undergraduate team to develop, deliver and quality assure educational programmes which will support medical learners to develop their clinical and communication competencies. These programmes will mostly include bedside teaching, classroom-based discussions and simulation-based education. You will also provide feedback to medical learners and support them with their professional and pastoral needs.
You will ensure adherence to the teaching, learning and assessment methods of the curriculum of partner medical schools and contribute to its development locally. You will work closely with the Director of Medical Education, the Associate Directors of Undergraduate Medical Education the undergraduate team and clinical skills team to respond to feedback from learners / clinicians as well as external regulators to ensure the quality of placements at UHMBT.
About usWe operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person SpecificationEssential- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Consultant or SAS doctor
- Significant experience as a Consultant or SAS doctor
- Significant experience in medical education development and delivery
- Awareness of recent changes in the delivery of medical education locally
- Awareness of Trust educational issues, challenges and successes
- Effective leadership, negotiation and communication skills
- Interest & enthusiasm for improving delivery of medical education
- Evidence of delivering well evaluated teaching sessions/tutorials.
- In good professional standing
Desirable- Postgraduate qualification in education
- Evidence of audit/research in medical education
- Mentoring certificate or equivalent
