Job SummaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join the team of Gastroenterology Consultants working at our Royal Stoke and County sites. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a hepatology interest to provide care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.
Main Duties of the JobThe Gastroenterology Department is the regional centre for Upper GI Cancer, including Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Cancer, as well as non-transplant Hepatology. The Department consists of 1 Gastroenterology Ward with 36 inpatient beds and there are 2 JAG accredited Endoscopy departments across Royal Stoke and County sites comprising of 10 scoping rooms in total, offering a range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. The successful postholder will be expected to deliver a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service; there is an opportunity to discuss the exact job plan and any specialist interests, and where possible these will be accommodated. A Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Gastroenterology and General Medicine is required.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Entry on Specialist Register in General Medicine and Gastroenterology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
- MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
Desirable- A higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
- Experience and interest in specialised aspects of gastroenterology to complement colleagues
- Higher training in a dedicated Gastroenterology specialty training scheme.
Clinical experience and trainingEssential- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) c. European Community Rights
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty
- Skills and independent competence in diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
Desirable- Skills and independent competence in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy
