The post holder will work on the SHO level rota, help to provide 24-hour cover and will work approximately 43 hours per week with weekly clinical duties being worked as part of a "rolling" rota. There will be an aim to progress the post holder from an RCEM Tier 2 clinician to a Tier 3 clinician within the duration of the post.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will gain a wide range of experience in Emergency Medicine, in addition to specific experience in critical care and the care of major trauma. Previous experience in Emergency Medicine in the NHS is essential and a recognised certification in Advanced Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support is preferable. Some or all parts of Membership of the Royal College of Emergency is desirable alongside evidence of commitment to a career in Emergency Medicine and teaching and audit/quality improvement experience. There will be Consultant or Registrar Grade doctors available for advice and supervision at all times. The post holder will work in all areas of the department including our 8 bedded resuscitation area, 35 bedded majors' area, dedicated paediatric emergency department and our ambulatory area.

You will be encouraged to develop your skills using the relevant portfolios (Horus or RCEM depending on your previous experience) and all post holders are assigned an educational supervisor. Multiple opportunities exist for you to attend a wide range of in-house teaching and training which includes dedicated weekly teaching, journal club, Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) and minor injuries. We have wide amounts of experience with either helping you to develop your Emergency Medicine career within UHNM as part of our CESR pathway or enter National Training. We also provide further careers guidance.

Job responsibilities

We have a well-developed programme for doctors who wish to stay within UHNM on completion of their Senior Training Fellowship and gain their CESR in Emergency Medicine as well as experience in helping doctors to to develop in in SAS pathways or as enter national training programmes in Emergency Medicine.

There will be 1 day per month of non-clinical time included in the role, this time is dedicated to your own and the departments development e.g. audit and quality improvement projects. You will also receive 10 paid study leave days per year and up to £1000 study budget allowance for approved courses.

The terms and and conditions of employment will be exactly equivalent to a UK NHS doctor of the same grade. The NHS will pay their salary, and their remuneration will be exactly the same as an equivalent UK doctor.
