An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department at University Hospital Lewisham as a Junior Clinical Fellow (Education Fellow). This unique 12-month post combines hands-on Emergency Medicine with dedicated protected time to develop your educational skills, making it an ideal role for clinicians with an interest in teaching and medical education. You'll gain valuable clinical experience while developing your teaching portfolio and working towards a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Medical Education.

Main duties of the job
As part of our dynamic Emergency Department team, you will:

• Deliver high-quality emergency care in a busy consultant-led department
• Spend 70% of your time in clinical practice and 30% undertaking educational activities
• Teach and support King's College London medical students
• Participate in simulation training and Foundation Doctor education
• Develop your educational skills through a funded PGCert in Medical Education
• Work alongside consultants with national reputations in Emergency Medicine education, simulation and ultrasound
• Access excellent opportunities in Quality Improvement, Audit and Research

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Full registration with UK General Medical Council
• Current provider status in at least one of the following advanced life support courses ATLS or ALS or other recognised equivalent course
• Working on a self-roster rota

Desirable

• Instructor status in ATLS or ALS
• Participation in formal teaching of Medical students
• Current provider status in 1 or more advanced life support courses ATLS or ALS

Clinical Experience

Essential

• Completed at least three years full time postgraduate training (or its equivalent)
• Shall have at least 18 months, full time (or its equivalent) experience of working in a Consultant led ED or have demonstrable, equivalent experience and competencies

Desirable

• Demonstrates developing an area of interest in Medical Education
• Demonstates good leadership and interpersonal skills especially releated to medical students

Clinical Audit

Essential

• Understanding and participation in medical audit.
• Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.

Desirable

• Should have evidence of current ongoing CPD and annual appraisal

Teaching Experience

Essential

• Experience of undergraduate teaching

Desirable

• Formal training teaching methods or simulation debrief
