Birch is a Haematology Day Case Unit open Monday- Friday 08:30-19:00. We treat patients with a wide range of haematological (both malignant & non-malignant) disorders, undergoing SACT, radiotherapy, supportive & palliative care & Bone Marrow or Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplants.
The post holder will provide Clinical Nurse Management, Clinical Leadership & expertise in all aspects of service delivery.
Applicants should have recent relevant experience in a leadership capacity preferably in Haematology at Band 6 or above & relevant clinical skills & knowledge.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities- Delivery of high standards of clinical care
- Delivery of Infection Control practice as defined by National recommendations and local policies. Teaching staff to understand their responsibilities e.g. environmental cleanliness, maintenance and use of all equipment within clinical setting
- Ensuring staff understand and implement actions and responsibilities e.g. environmental cleanliness, maintenance and use of all equipment within clinical setting
- With support from the Matron, lead the investigation and follow up of all clinical incidents and complaints ensuring that any corrective action is implemented.
- Acts as a role model for excellence, maintaining own clinical competence and active NMC registration.
- Providing Specialist Nursing advice to the multidisciplinary team.
- Providing and delivering a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-coordinating the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of individual patients needs based on the ward philosophy. Providing continuity of care throughout the patient journey, liaising across the organisations. This includes all aspects of care from admission to the planning & organisation of discharge arrangements with voluntary & statutory agencies to ensure continuity of care from the hospital to the community or continuing care setting.
- Identifying and interpreting complex patient needs in relation to their disease and proposed treatment.
- Reporting and documenting all relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals in the multi-disciplinary team with ongoing responsibility for patient care, both verbally & in writing, as they occur.
- Providing and delivering health information, education & promotion within the clinical area and advise patients, family, and others in a manner which maintains an individuals privacy & dignity.

Person SpecificationKnowledge and ExperienceEssential- Previous recent demonstrable experience in a leadership capacity at Band 6 or above.

QualificationsEssential- Proven Registered Nurse(NMC).
- SACT trained
Desirable- Post qualifcation Haematology Course
Aptitude and AbilitiesEssential- Good organisational and communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
- Effective influencing skills: in general and with senior health care professionals.
Desirable- Previous demonstrable experience of managing and controlling a budget.
