We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our established respiratory team.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, skilled individual, with a passion for delivering respiratory care and be ready to join our dedicated established multi-disciplinary team, delivering acute respiratory nursing care for patients with a variety of respiratory conditions who might be receiving Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), or have a chest drain sited. Our brand new respiratory unit is on C9 in the Louisa Martindale Building and comprises of 20 side rooms, alongside an eight bedded 'higher acuity 'area, and will be linked to the respiratory specialist nursing services. This role requires a dynamic individual with relevant knowledge and clinical experience of excellent patient focused/ evidence based acute care.
Main duties of the job- The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an effective, safe environment of care for individual patients, their relatives and carers.
- To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
- To act as the designated deputy to the Ward Manager.
- To teach and supervise junior and unqualified staff and maintain a learning environment.

Job responsibilities- Provides effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct
- Practices within the NMC code of conduct and has responsibility for promoting and monitoring this practice on the ward
- Takes the lead role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised evidence based patient care including the monitoring of care standards through audit and other activities
- Participates in the development and implementation of an explicit ward philosophy of care
- Effectively processes admissions & transfers and plans discharges in accordance with UHSussex policy and standards, including liaison with partner agencies
- Actively participates and monitors the promotion of education for patients, their relatives and colleagues and ensures these needs are met within available resources
- Ensures provision of all drugs as prescribed in accordance with UHSussex Policy, including parenteral administration.
- Actively engages with Patient First Improvement Program.
Person SpecificationExperience/QualificationsEssential- Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK)
- Evidence of professional development through short courses, academic study at a minimum of post-registration level
- Mentorship module / or similar/ i.e. NMC Supervisor/Assessor (ENB 998)
- Proven extensive nursing experience
- Experience of looking after complex respiratory patients requiring NIV, chest drains, oxygen therapy including the required training to look after these patients.
Desirable- Experience gained in more than one specialist medical care area
- Extensive varied experience in nursing with management experience
- Leadership Qualification (in house/NHS/university module)
- Current ILS / ALS qualification
