Job summary
The Community Midwifery Team Leader is responsible for providing visible clinical and operational leadership to the Community Midwifery Teams across both St Richard's Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital sites. The post holder will lead and coordinate community maternity services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, woman-centred care in line with Trust objectives, national standards, and professional requirements. Working collaboratively across sites, the Team Leader will support workforce management, service development, quality improvement, and performance monitoring while fostering a positive culture that promotes learning, staff wellbeing, and excellent patient experience. The role requires effective cross-site working, ensuring consistency of practice and seamless maternity care across the University Hospitals Sussex at St Richards and Worthing. This role includes participation in the Manager on Call roster.

Main duties of the job

• Provide effective clinical and operational leadership for the Community Midwifery Teams across St Richard's Hospital and Worthing Hospital.
• Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, woman-centred maternity care within community settings.
• Lead, support and supervise community midwifery staff, promoting professional development and wellbeing.
• Manage staffing, workload allocation, and service delivery across both sites to meet operational demands.
• Monitor and improve quality, safety, patient experience, and performance against key standards and targets.
• Lead on the investigation and management of incidents, complaints, risks, and safeguarding concerns.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations to ensure seamless maternity care pathways.
• Support the implementation of national, regional, and Trust maternity initiatives, driving continuous service improvement.
• Maintain professional standards and ensure compliance with NMC requirements, Trust policies, and maternity guidance.

Job responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated midwife to lead our Community Midwifery Teams across St Richards Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital. This cross-site leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate maternity care within community settings, while providing clinical, operational and professional leadership to community midwives and maternity support workers.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and external partners to drive service improvement, maintain high standards of care, support staff development and wellbeing, and ensure a seamless experience for women and families across the maternity pathway. This role offers the opportunity to influence service development and contribute to the delivery of outstanding maternity care across University Hospitals Sussex.

Experience
Essential

• NMC Registered Midwife
• Current UK Driving License
• Degree or equivalent portfolio of evidence
• Significant post reg experience

Desirable

• Mentorship module or equivalent
• Leadership or management course/equivalent experience
