Main duties of the job- Deliver structured ADHD assessments for children and young people in line with local and national standards.
- Gather and review information from multiple sources, including parents, carers, schools and existing records.
- Complete developmental histories and assess functional impact across different settings.
- Present cases within multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and contribute to robust diagnostic decision-making.
- Provide clear and sensitive feedback to children, young people and families regarding assessment outcomes.
- Produce high-quality clinical reports and correspondence within agreed timescales.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
- Identify safeguarding concerns, assess risk and escalate issues appropriately.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement initiatives and service development activities.
- Engage in clinical supervision, reflective practice and ongoing professional development.

Job responsibilities- Conducting comprehensive ADHD assessments.
- Reviewing referral information, questionnaires and school reports.
- Gathering multi-informant evidence from home and educational settings.
- Applying clinical reasoning and considering differential diagnoses.
- Contributing to MDT discussions and diagnostic outcomes.
- Producing clear, accurate and evidence-based reports.
- Communicating outcomes and recommendations to families.
- Maintaining high standards of record keeping and information governance.
- Managing safeguarding concerns and escalating risk appropriately.
- Supporting audit, governance and service improvement activities.
- Participating in supervision and maintaining professional registration and competency.
Person SpecificationEssential- Current professional registration with NMC or HCPC (or equivalent relevant regulator) in a nursing, psychology, SLT or other mental health role.
- At least one year of experience delivering CYP ADHD assessments within a diagnostic pathway.
- Significant post-qualification experience working with children and young people in mental health, neurodevelopmental, paediatric, CAMHS, or closely related services.
- Training/competency in relevant ADHD assessment tools used within ND services.
- Direct experience contributing to structured assessment processes (history taking, multi-source information gathering, differential considerations/clinical reasoning).
- Ability to integrate evidence across settings and informants into clear, defensible clinical conclusions.
- Strong report-writing capability, with evidence of producing high-quality clinical documentation to deadlines.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding, risk identification and escalation within CYP services.
- Confident MDT working and ability to follow governed diagnostic pathways.
Desirable- Experience of audit, service improvement, or pathway refinement activity.
- Experience working within high-volume assessment pathways or Right to Choose models.
