About the department
The Heart Health Centre at Welbeck is a leading independent cardiovascular service, bringing together some of the UK's most respected cardiologists, cardiac and vascular surgeons, and specialist healthcare professionals in a purpose-built, patient-centred environment. Located in the heart of London's renowned medical district, the centre delivers comprehensive diagnostics, outpatient care, advanced cardiac imaging, rhythm management and invasive cardiology.

About the role
This is a senior clinical leadership opportunity to act as the Centre Director's main deputy and oversee the full clinical team at Welbeck's Heart Health Centre. As Clinical Lead, you will provide expert clinical and operational leadership across the Invasive service (via the Invasive Lead, who manages Highly specialised Physiologists, the Cardiac Nurse Specialist and Healthcare Assistant team), the Echocardiography and Vascular services, and the Cardiac Physiologist/Scientist team, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care across all diagnostic and procedural services.

You will hold responsibility for quality assurance and continuous performance improvement across the clinical team, feeding clinical, quality and performance data into the centre's Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee, the Resuscitation Committee, and the Heart Health MDT. You will act as the Centre Director's main deputy, taking responsibility for the day-to-day operational leadership of the centre in their absence, working alongside the Business Manager to support operations, financial performance, people management, governance and business development.

This role suits an experienced clinical leader with strong operational and commercial awareness, ready to help lead a growing, high-performing centre.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical & Quality Leadership
  • Provide expert leadership across the Invasive service, Echocardiography service, Vascular service and Cardiac Physiology/Scientist team
  • Ensure robust clinical governance, safety and quality standards across all invasive/procedural lists and diagnostic services
  • Lead the department's quality assurance programme, including relevant accreditation, equipment quality control, and audit of clinical accuracy and reporting turnaround
  • Feed clinical and performance data into the QAPI Committee, Resuscitation Committee and Heart Health MDT
  • Drive continuous performance improvement using data, KPIs and patient feedback

People & Operational Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and line management of the Invasive team, CNS, HCA team, Echocardiography and Vascular team, including recruitment, performance and development
  • Directly line manage the Echo team, Ensure the Invasive Lead is effectively managing and developing the Cardiac Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Healthcare Assistant (HCA) team
  • Maintain rotas and monitor staff sickness/absence in line with centre policy
  • Work in partnership with the Business Manager to ensure aligned, efficient delivery across the centre

Deputising for the Centre Director
  • Act as the Centre Director's main deputy, taking responsibility for the day-to-day operational leadership of the centre in their absence
  • Take responsibility for financial performance, business planning, governance and business development
  • Support innovation and adoption of new technologies across the clinical service

About you
  • Current clinical registration with an appropriate regulatory body (e.g. NMC, HCPC, or equivalent) —open to Registered Nurses, Clinical Physiologists, or other appropriately registered clinical professionals
  • Substantial experience in a clinical leadership role within a cardiology, cardiac diagnostics or related healthcare setting
  • Experience leading and managing a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Confident operating in a fast-paced, high-performing clinical environment, with the credibility to lead across invasive and diagnostic services and deputise for senior leadership when required
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness, with experience supporting budgets and business planning, is desirable
