Job summary
This post is for a full time Locum Consultant in Intensive Care at the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for 6 months. The successful candidate will be expected to cover Intensive Care and Outreach sessions. We are also interested in candidates who are dual or triple trained intensivists in an allied specialty. Job plans would be adapted to the successful candidate's needs.

Duties will be at Watford General Hospital, with nominal cover for St Albans City Hospital. The post holder will work 1 in 4 weeks covering ICU during the day with the other 3 weeks as further ICU sessions.

On call duties will be based at Watford General Hospital covering the intensive care unit on 1 in 9 including weekend daytime sessions. There is a nominal cover for inpatients on the St Albans site.

Main duties of the job
Primary duties of the role are:

• Undertake the responsibilities associated with the role of a Consultant in Intensive Care.
• Cover for periods of colleague absence due to annual leave and other authorised undertakings
• Provide professional supervision and management of trainee and specialty medical staff.
• Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at Audit, Governance and Consultant meetings.
• Take part in annual appraisal, and revalidation.
• Active involvement in audit and service improvement projects.
• Involvement in research is encouraged
• Teaching both trainees and undergraduates.
• Maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development.

Person Specification
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent, FICM or equivalent
• Must be on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of CCT (and gaining specialist registration) at time of interview
• Up to date evidence based practice in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM)
• Extensive experience in a wide range of Intensive Care settings equivalent to a UK CCT in ICM

Desirable

• Other professional or higher qualification
• Life support provider (ALS or ATLS, APLS or MOET)
• Academic distinction or prizes
• Work experience in a major (or University Hospital).
