Job summaryWe are seeking an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Paediatrician with specialist interest in allergy. This is a 12-month, 6PA Locum Consultant Paediatrician post. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of individuals devoted to providing the very best care for our patients. This post offers an excellent opportunity to join a busy and dynamic Paediatric Allergy team, delivering outpatient and elective allergy assessment and care. This post is based at Watford General Hospital site with outpatient clinics at Hemel Hempstead Hospital site.
Main duties of the jobThe Paediatric Allergy service at West Hertfordshire Hospitals provides diagnostic and management advice for children with a wide range of atopic conditions including food allergies, allergic respiratory, gastrointestinal and skin conditions. The service is multi-disciplinary led by consultants and specialist nurse and supported by dieticians and nurses. The post-holder will provide three outpatient allergy clinics each week across both sites. The post-holder will also support Day Unit allergy activity and elective service development. This includes clinical supervision and input with activities such as oral food challenges and immunotherapy and contribution to departmental training and education teaching and simulation programmes.

Job responsibilitiesPlease kindly refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for the main responsibilities of the job: Consistent with independent consultant practice in general paediatrics and allergy. Competent to independently manage children in a elective daycare and outpatient setting. Able to demonstrate clinical skills in line with RCPCH curriculum.
Person SpecificationEssential- Full GMC registration
- MBBS or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics or Paediatrics (Paediatric Emergency Medicine) via oCCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview); or Portfolio pathway (CESR)
- APLS or equivalent
- 6 months clinical experience in managing patients with food allergies, atopic respiratory and skin disease in an out-patient setting.
- Level 3 Safeguarding
Desirable- Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty
- Tertiary level allergy experience
