Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Clinical Psychologist keen to develop a career in neuropsychology, to provide 12 months' parental leave cover.

This post offers an excellent foundation for developing specialist neuropsychology skills within the friendly and supportive Clinical Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Department at Charing Cross Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and including the Northwest London Regional Neurosciences Centre.

The role includes specialist neuropsychological assessment and intervention within our outpatient service, which receives referrals from a wide range of neurology and neurosurgery clinics including cognitive disorders and dementia, traumatic brain injury, movement disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuro-oncology, infectious diseases and general neurology. There are also opportunities to contribute to exciting service development initiatives. Weekly supervision is provided by a senior Clinical Neuropsychologist.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and formulation for patients presenting with a wide range of neurological disorders referred from specialist neurology and neurosurgery clinics. The role requires experience of neuropsychological assessment, a high level of attention to detail and an ability to assimilate information from a range of sources to arrive at a neuropsychological formulation of a patient's current difficulties and presentation.

The post holder will also contribute to the delivery of a specialist intervention pathway providing psychological interventions for patients presenting with mental health difficulties associated with Parkinson's disease, as well as supporting the development of new evidence-based intervention pathways for other groups of neurological patients.

In addition to direct clinical assessment and intervention, the post provides opportunities for involvement in service development, staff consultation and training, and research and audit.

Qualifications
Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training (or its equivalent) in Clinical Psychology leading to eligibility for Chartered Status by the British Psychological Society
• Eligible for professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working in a neuropsychology setting.
• Experience of conducting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments autonomously.
• Experience of neuropsychological assessment report writing to a high standard.
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

• Experience of adapting psychological interventions for clients with cognitive difficulties.
• Experience of conducting cross cultural neuropsychological assessments via an interpreter.
• Experience of the application of clinical neuropsychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential

• Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.

Desirable

• High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialized psychological therapies.
• Knowledge of evidence based psychological therapies for people with Parkinson's disease

Essential

• Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

• Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
