Job summaryAn exciting new role has become available for existing Clinical Validation Clinicians to become Clinical Team Mentors who will provide support, mentorship and audits for all clinical staff within the CVT team.

Job descriptionJob responsibilities- Maintain the relevant Professional Registration and undertake continual professional development, to maintain skill levels and knowledge. Carry out procedures in accordance with JRCALC, NICE Guidelines, RCN Resources, Trust and National Guidance that is within the organisations permitted scope of practice.
- Maintain personal clinical standards by completing a minimum of two clinical shifts per month and a minimum audit compliancy of 91%.
- To recognise and report to the appropriate authorities any concerns regarding Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults through a single point of access.
- Adherence to the drug and medication legislation such as: Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 - 2001 regulations, prescriptions Only Medication Act 1968,1997 Amendments Act 1992.
- Adherence to the law governing the use and documentation of controlled drugs used and carried within the Trust.
- Attending CTM training courses, r levelling sessions and other mandatory training required by WMAS.
- Exercise clinical judgement in implementing emergency care, treatment plans and alternative care pathways.
- Communicate effectively with clinicians to be able to challenge behaviour and address poor practice, escalating concerns to a manager when required
- Accurately complete all WMAS documentation including confidential details as required by the organisation. On occasions individuals may be expected to give evidence to HM Coroner or a court.
- Undertake NHS Pathways live audits in line with NHSP license.
- Undertake retrospective audits as required and provide feedback.
- Plan and undertake clinical supervision on a range of staff within CVT providing mentorship and supervision on activities and subjects set out by the trust each year.
- Support clinicians to maintain their clinical competency through mentorship, providing accurate and structured feedback, escalating concerns to a manager. Managers may decide to implement an action plan to improve an individuals competency within the workplace under the relevant policies and procedures, which mentors can use to report on and measure progress against.
- Support newly appointed staff during their probationary period through supervision, guidance, and feedback, ensuring the successful development of safe, competent, and confident clinical practice.
- Responsibility to coach and mentor new and existing clinical staff when they are adopting new or refreshing existing clinical practices or new ways of working.
- Complete the necessary report following completion of a clinical supervision shift with a clinician.
- Ensure all required audits are completed for named staff
- Facilitate the review of cases as requested by local management teams or the trusts Patient Safety department, to identify areas for improvement or learning, or positive areas of achievement or practice. This will be reported on the relevant trust template back to the organisation. This will be in line with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
- For those qualified in non-medical prescribing, support recruitment, progression and supervision of trainees.
- For those qualified in medical non-medical prescribing, support audits, case reviews and monitoring of prescribing.
- For those qualified in non-medical prescribing, support portfolio review, monitoring, and escalation for non-completion.
- For those qualified in non-medical prescribing, support antimicrobial stewardship through monitoring, policy and audit.
- For those qualified in non-medical prescribing, support compliance to CD legislation through audit and case-review.
- Act as a point of contact for staff with clinical queries or advice and know when and where to seek advice from if further information is required.
- Maintain a smart appearance at all times, in conjunction with the organisations uniform policy and any other relevant policy.
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct, Operational Instructions, Quality Procedures, Data Protection, Caldicott procedures and any other verbal or written instructions promulgated by the organisation currently or in the future.
- Clinical Team Mentors should behave as expected within the organisations Code of Conduct and other policies, ensuring that they maintain a professional relationship with colleagues and patients. This includes adherence to the trusts Sexual Safety charter.
- To participate in patient trials or audits where requested by the organisation.
- Maintain a professional portfolio with evidence of ongoing clinical and reflective practice. Undertake additional training to develop and maintain your skills in order to support and advise staff.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Previous Mentor experience
QualificationsEssential- Educated to degree level or possessing work experience demonstrating graduate level ability.
- Masters or equivalent specialist knowledge /experience gained through equivalent qualification or experience.
- HCPC/NMC Registered Paramedic/Nurse for 2-3yrs (completed NQP consolidation period).
- A minimum of 12 months CVT experience.
- At least 6 months consecutive audit compliance and not on a tier.
- WMAS/University based named mentor and or equivalent experience/qualification
- Evidence of extended specialist Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
