Job summaryThe Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership within the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, delivering high-quality, nurse-led care to patients on ambulatory care pathways. The post holder leads the assessment, care planning, treatment, discharge planning and ongoing management of patients, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and community services to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, reduce readmissions and support safe care closer to home. The role also provides leadership and line management to the nursing team, ensuring safe, effective and evidence-based practice, maintaining Care Quality Commission standards, developing clinical pathways, and leading service improvement, audit and quality initiatives to support the continued development of the SDEC service.
Main duties of the jobAs the Clinical Nurse Manager for Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), you will provide clinical and operational leadership to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care within an innovative ambulatory care service. You will assess, plan, coordinate and evaluate care for patients on SDEC pathways, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and community partners to support admission avoidance and timely discharge.
You will lead and line manage the nursing team, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, patient safety and compliance with professional and organisational standards. You will play a key role in developing and implementing clinical pathways, improving patient flow, supporting service transformation, and driving continuous quality improvement through audit, education and evidence-based practice.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated senior nurse with excellent clinical, leadership and communication skills, committed to delivering outstanding care and improving outcomes for patients attending urgent and emergency care services.

Person SpecificationEducation/QualificationEssentialDesirable- Management/Leadership course
Skills & AbilitiesEssential- Significant experience and competence in intravenous therapy including cannulation and venepuncture
- Experience in Antibiotic and intravenous drug administration
Knowledge & ExperienceEssential- At least 2 years working at band 6 level or above
- Previous nursing experience in Acute Medicine/ED
- An understanding of team development and leadership
Personal QualitiesEssential- Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
- Demonstrates understanding of good practice in patient/customer care
