Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the Minor Injury Unit at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Kidderminster MIU is a busy department open from 8am until 10pm, seven days a week, seeing over 26,000 patients a year.
We are seeking an individual to join our friendly well-established team. The job role requires a friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated individual who will work as an Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner, providing minor injury assessment and treatments to the patients attending MIU.
Full time and part time hours avalible. The shift pattern consists of 7.30am- 8pm and 10am -10.30pm, over weekdays and weekends.

Main duties of the jobThe Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner will work as an autonomous clinician within a nurse led Minor Injury Unit without reference to a doctor, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients presenting with minor injuries. They will be part of a team of nursing, medical and allied professionals leading in the delivery of a high-quality service to patients presenting with minor injuries.

Job responsibilities- Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based care from initial presentation through discharge or referral.
- Utilise advanced clinical decision making, diagnostic, and prescribing/PGD skills to ensure high quality patient outcomes.
- Act as a clinical leader, providing supervision, mentorship, and education to junior colleagues and students.
- Promote high standards of professional practice, safeguarding, and health promotion in line with national and local guidance.
- Contribute to service development, audit, research, and quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and service efficiency.
- Undertake autonomous assessment, diagnose, treatment, and management of patients presenting with minor injuries.
- Order and interpret appropriate investigations (e.g., X-rays, ECGs)
- Prescribe safely and appropriately under independent/non-medical prescribing authority or PGD guidance.
- Provide effective patient education, safety-netting, and discharge planning.
- Recognise, initiate, and escalate care for patients requiring urgent or emergency intervention.
- Ensure accurate documentation and use of clinical IT systems in line with Trust policy.
- Will provide clinical support and advice to all members of the Emergency Care team. Will support the key quality indicators ensuring 15-minute triage times and 4 hr breaches are met and assist with initial assessment of all patients in MIU. Will be part of the Kidderminster emergency response team.

QualificationsEssential- Registered Nurse (NMC) or equivalent professional registration (paramedic).
- Post-registration qualification in Minor Injuries and/or Minor illness.
- Teaching/Mentorship qualification or NHS Trust Assessor/Supervisor training.
- Non-medical Xray referrer and up to date IRMER.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable- Independent/Non-medical Prescriber (V300).
- Evidence of management training or equivalent experience.
- Manchester Triage Training.
- Qualification in Minor Illness management.
Knowledge and skillsEssential- Advanced assessment, history-taking, and diagnostic reasoning skills.
- Competent in clinical decision-making and safe prescribing.

ExperienceEssential- Significant post registration experience in Emergency/Urgent Care/Minor Injury unit.

- Evidence of involvement in audit, service development, or quality improvement.
Desirable- Previous leadership or management experience within urgent/emergency care.
- Experience in research or guideline development.
