Job summary
We are seeking experienced Endoscopy Nurses to support our weekend Endoscopy service on the Isle of Wight.

This is a locum opportunity working Saturdays and Sundays, where you will work alongside the wider Endoscopy team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care throughout the endoscopy pathway. Your role will include pre-procedure assessment and preparation, cannulation, assisting during procedures, administering sedation, monitoring patients, supporting recovery and providing appropriate aftercare.

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of experience working specifically as an Endoscopy Nurse within the last year in a UK healthcare setting. This is a mandatory requirement for the role.

Travel and accommodation will be provided, with travel to the Isle of Wight likely to take place on Friday evenings.

Main duties of the job
The Endoscopy Nurse will provide safe and high-quality care to patients throughout their endoscopy pathway. Main duties include completing pre-procedure assessments, preparing patients, cannulation, administering sedation, monitoring vital signs, assisting the endoscopist during procedures, supporting biopsies and specimen labelling, providing recovery care and aftercare advice, and accurately documenting procedure outcomes.

Job responsibilities
The Endoscopy Nurse will work as part of the multidisciplinary Endoscopy team, providing safe, high-quality care to patients throughout their endoscopy pathway.

The role will involve assessing and preparing patients prior to procedures, undertaking observations and cannulation, administering sedation within scope of practice, and monitoring patients throughout their procedure.

You will assist the endoscopist during procedures, manage equipment, support with biopsies and specimen labelling, and ensure patient safety, dignity and comfort are maintained at all times.

Following procedures, you will provide recovery monitoring and post-procedure care, deliver appropriate aftercare advice and ensure all relevant clinical documentation is completed accurately.

The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within a busy Endoscopy service while following relevant clinical, infection prevention and patient safety procedures.

Applicants must have a minimum of one year of Endoscopy Nursing experience within the last year in a UK healthcare setting.

Essential Criteria for Endoscopy Nurses

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Minimum of 1 year of Endoscopy Nursing experience within the last year in a UK healthcare setting
• Recent experience working within a busy Endoscopy service
• Experience conducting pre-procedure patient assessments
• Competent in cannulation and recording patient observations
• Experience administering sedation and monitoring patients during endoscopy procedures
• Confident assisting an endoscopist during procedures
• Experience supporting with biopsies and specimen handling/labelling
• Experience providing post-procedure and recovery care
• Good understanding of infection prevention, patient safety and clinical governance
• Strong communication and patient care skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary Endoscopy team
• Available to work Saturdays and Sundays
