Job Title: Deputy Ward Manager
Job summaryWe have an exciting opportunity to join our Acute admissions unit (Lilac Ward) as a deputy ward manager.
Lilac is a 32 bedded busy admission unit which cares for acute medical patients, before they are transferred onto specialty area.
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate, organised and pro-active nurse who can balance direct patient care with leadership responsibilities ensuring safe effective and person centred care across the acute ward.
Main duties of the job- Delivering a high standard of patient-focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust policies, procedures, and values.
- Acting as a positive role model, supporting the development of clinical knowledge, skills, and professional practice within the ward team.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Supporting the Sister/Charge Nurse in setting, monitoring, and continuously improving standards of care, including those outlined within the National Benchmarks for Essential Care.
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, ensuring accurate and contemporaneous clinical records are maintained.
- Assisting with the day-to-day management of clinical services and supporting the effective deployment of staff to meet patient and service needs.
- Demonstrating a personal commitment to infection prevention and control, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and best practice at all times.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and compassionate care that delivers the best possible outcomes for patients.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered Nurse (Level 1)
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
Desirable- Leadership and management qualification
- Quality and improvement qualification
ExperienceEssential- At least 2 years at Band 5 or equivalent
- Clinical audit and standard setting
- Working with a wide range of professionals
Desirable- 6 months working in clinical area
