Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Locum Consultant in Breast to join our team of friendly and supportive Breast consultants in a One Year Fixed Term Post.

The York Breast Unit provides a symptomatic breast service for a population of approximately 500,00 between York and Scarborough and is the base for the North Yorkshire Breast Screening Service.

Currently six dedicated breast surgeons provide treatment for over 700 newly diagnosed cases of breast cancer (screen detected and symptomatic) per year.

We would encourage applications from individuals with skills to complement our existing team. The job will involve providing core elective and emergency Breast care and can accommodate most subspecialist interests.

Base hospital: York, the post holder will be required to work across both sites

Main duties of the job
The job role involves supporting a well-established and collaborative department, focused on excellent, person-centered care.

Within the Trust we are part of Surgery Care Group, which includes most surgical specialties. We have a Clinical Director responsible for the all General Surgery, Urology, Vascular, Trauma and Orthopaedic and Breast services across the Trust and a Lead Clinician for Breast.

Individual job plans will be discussed with the post holder on appointment.

Qualifications
Essential

• Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
• Hold of license to practise with the General Medical Council
• Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in Breast Surgery
• Knowledge of good medical practice and the General Medical Council requirements
• Is able to work effectively in spite of pressures

Desirable

• MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
• Ability to supervise postgraduate research
• Substantive NHS experience
• An appropriate higher qualification

Clinical practice/ competence

• Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice
• Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
• Ability to teach clinical skills
• Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
