Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is recruiting Senior Clinical Advisors for our Emergency Operations Centres (999) in Wakefield and York. With exciting developments planned over the next few years, we are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed individuals to support these changes.
Applicants must be NMC RN1 or HCPC Paramedic registered. We cannot accept an NMC PRN Pin as it does not meet the role's essential criteria.

Internal paramedic applicants may work 100% as an EOC Senior Clinical Advisor or choose a rotational role of five weeks in their A&E operational role followed by five weeks in EOC. Your preference will be requested during the application process. This vacancy is for the Wakefield and York call centres only; Remote Hub vacancies will be advertised separately when available.
Training: You will begin on a training contract and move to a permanent contract after successfully completing training. Homeworking is not available.
Opportunities are available to work Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 22:00, alongside the usual 24/7 rota. If interested in the Monday-to-Friday option, this can be discussed if you are successful through the process.
Main duties of the jobThe Senior Clinical Advisoris responsible forthe assessment of health and clinical needs,utilisingevidence-based practice, professional clinical judgement, supported by decision support software, to achieveappropriate safeclinical outcomes for our patients.
This requires generalist and specialist skills as a healthcareprofessional to assess and deliver care to patients.
Applicants should have experience in emergency care, assessment of high acuity symptoms, a broad knowledge ofconditionsand an understanding of red flag symptoms and consequence.
As a Senior Clinical Advisor, you will need to be able todemonstratethe following key skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Work with a variety of clinical specialists to ensure safe clinical processes for patients
- The ability to make quick safe clinical decisions under pressure and the ability to assess andidentifyred flag symptoms and conditions
- Undertake referrals to internal and external clinicians
You will provide amedicalassessment, medication advice, healthinformationand implement care packages to a range of individuals, liaising with other agencies and healthcare providers, as necessary.

Job responsibilitiesTo be successful in this role you should be a registered professional (for example, a registered Nurse or Paramedic) and have experience of undertaking clinical assessment within an acute or primary care setting.

Person SpecificationKnowledge & educationEssential- Registered Professional (RN1 or HPC or equivalent professional qualification) with current valid registration
Skills and abilitiesEssential- Knowledge and competence in keyboard and IT skills to access databases and varying computer software programmes.
- Able to assess and manage clinical risk appropriately
- Advanced patient assessment skills including excellent record keeping skills
Desirable- Understanding of audit, evaluation and clinical governance
Experience & work achievementsEssential- Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in acute or primary care settings with experience of clinical assessment.
Desirable- Experience of telephone triage
- Experience of undertaking a mentoring role
Personal AttributesEssential- Adaptability to changing and developing processes and procedures
- Must be able to deal with a demanding workload and be calm under pressure
