Job summaryA exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative Pharmacy Technician to join the established Pharmacy Systems Team within ABUHB. The role will have responsibility for the vast array of Pharmacy systems and associated hardware, including Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Pharmacy Robotic Dispensing Systems, the CareFlow Medicines Management Pharmacy Stock Control System.
The role is based at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, with an expectation to visit the other ABUHB Acute and Peripheral sites as and when needed. The role will report to the Principal Pharmacy Technician for Systems and work in collaboration with them and the Senior Pharmacy Assistants to deliver the Pharmacy Systems and Digital roadmap.
The role will have management responsibility of the three Senior Pharmacy Assistants established within the team, and support their development and progression while assisting in maximising efficiency at their base sites.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the jobProvide an effective and professional Pharmacy systems service when liaising with stakeholders, using tact and diplomacy to encourage effective working when dealing with any communication difficulties.
Participate in the implementation, management and continued optimisation of ABUHB Pharmacy and Medicines Management Systems ,applying knowledge, skills and training of a registered pharmacy technician.
Be an expert super-user for Careflow Medicines Management, Omnicell, Prescription Tracking System, WOREQ2 ward ordering requestsystem, CheckIt temperature monitoring and Pharmacy Dispensing Robots (RDS) located across the Health Board, and their associateddatabase(s).
Optimise and maximise use of available resources within Microsoft 365 suite to support and enhance work of the Pharmacy Service.
Deputise for Principal Pharmacy Technician, acting as line manager for the section and providing specialist clinical and technical support. Manage and supervise work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.

Person SpecificationQualifications and Knowledge- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical technical procedures for specialist area to degree or equivalent level to include: BTec in Pharmaceutical Science or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services
- Medicines Management qualification.
- Accredited Checking Technician (as per National Education Framework)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience- Significant work experience (post qualification) in hospital pharmacy
- Broad knowledge and experience of hospital pharmacy practice
- Working knowledge/ experience of writing SOPs
- Experience of systems maintenance for robots /vending machines in hospital pharmacy environment
- Experience in training and supervision of trainees
