We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated lead medicines management pharmacy technician. This is a maternity leave cover working alongside an existing Lead Pharmacy Technician within cardiac and respiratory services.The post holder will be working closely with the clinical pharmacy team, the pharmacy dispensary and ward multi-disciplinary teams within cardiac and respiratory services at St Bartholomew's Hospital.You will be a team player and keen to continue to improve quality standards within the department and will be responsible for safe and cost-effective provision of medication. The post holder will manage the ward-based team of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and senior pharmacy assistants whilst supporting the clinical lead pharmacists with day to day service provision.You will be fully supported in your role to fulfil your potential in leadership, management and quality improvement processes

Main duties of the job
To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective provision of medication within our service including the dedicated ward based dispensaries. The post holder will manage our ward basedteam of Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and senior pharmacy assistants. They will be responsible for providing a patient facing, pharmacy service to cardiac and respiratory patients for our inpatient wards and organising the operational flow of theservice on a day to day basis. The post holder will be an active member of the Site Operational Team (SOT).

Qualifications
Essential
  • Level 3 Diploma in Principles and practice for pharmacy technicians or equivalent. ? Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification ? Medicines optimisation training (MOP)
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
  • Quality Improvement training
  • Educational Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
  • HR training

Desirable
  • Level 4 - Clinical Diploma for pharmacy technicians or equivalent
  • Advanced medicines optimisation training (Clinical Prioritisation)
  • Change managemen

Experience
Essential
  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts.
  • Previous significant experience of working in hospital setting
  • Demonstrable experience of providing pharmacy professional training, and supporting training
  • Experience with undertaking appraisals, devising PDPs, setting SMART objectives and creating action plan
  • Experience of collecting, manipulating and presenting data in appropriate format using Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Experience of implementing change
  • Experience of training staff, giving staff developmental feedback and implementing training plans
  • Leadership experience within a pharmacy service, including organising a service on a day to -day basis
  • Experience in the leadership of staff / teams
  • Experience with recruitment and selection; chairing interviews

Desirable
  • Experience with management of staff including experience of conducting disciplinary meetings and chairing meetings
  • Evidence of project management
  • Experience in Quality Improvement Initiatives

Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
  • Able to solve problems to the level appropriate to the post
  • Significant experience and knowledge of line managing staff
  • Understanding of the regulations relating to managing people
  • Awareness and experience dealing with risk management issues
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for service including quality and audit
