Job summary
Whipps Cross Older People's Service Clinical lead. Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for a Fixed Term 6-month Consultant Stroke Physician to be based on the Whipps Cross Hospital site. 6 Month Fixed Term Contract. Whipps Cross University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust and is situated in Waltham Forest, North East London. The hospital serves a diverse local population of more than 350,000. Our mission is to provide high quality clinical care to our patients, develop our integrated care model and provide our trainees with excellent support. We're looking for dynamic individual to lead our team with their ideas and enthusiasm, as well as a passion for providing excellent clinical care.

Main duties of the job
The stroke patient pathway is an integral part of the Barts Health's policy to deliver high quality modern stroke care is delivered on 3 sites: Royal London Hospital (RLH), Whipps Cross University Hospital (WXUH) and Newham Hospital. At the RLH site there is a Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) with 12 monitored beds for acute Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy and 14 acute stroke unit beds. The Newham ASU has 14 beds and the ASU at Whipps has 19 beds. There are specialist Stroke MDTs and TIA clinics on all three sites and early supported discharge teams.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Essential: MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
  • Essential: Full GMC Registration with license to practice
  • Desirable: Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)

Experience
  • Essential: Stroke experience (at equivalent level to Stroke CCST)
  • Essential: Experience in Thrombolysis
  • Desirable: Experience of Multidisciplinary Stroke services
  • Desirable: Ability to organize and deliver a teaching programme

Knowledge
  • Essential: Detailed knowledge of Geriatrics - G(I)M and stroke of the specialist skills required for this post
  • Essential: Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Essential: Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life long learning
  • Desirable: Interest in research, with evidence of peer-reviewed publications Peer reviewed original research publications

Skills
  • Essential: Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team
  • Essential: Experience of supervising medical staff
  • Essential: Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
  • Essential: Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Essential: Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agencies
  • Desirable: Ability to motivate busy clinicians to engage in teaching
  • Desirable: Ability to develop research projects and supervise trainees in their research

Other
  • Essential: Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues
  • Essential: Self-motivated with an enquiring, critical approach to work
  • Essential: Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national level
  • Essential: Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure
  • Essential: Good Leadership skills
