Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic team providing inpatient care across our medical specialties at Royal London Hospital. This is a fixed term contract ending August 2027. Successful applicants will be allocated to the Gastroenterology and Hepatology department. Within this specialty their role will be to deliver inpatient medical care on a ward based system and covering medical wards on the 13th Floor out of hours as per the oncall rota of 1 in 3 weekends, there will be no night shifts or acute medical admissions shifts associated with these roles. The medical teams are committed to supporting medical education, and within the medical departments there are lunchtime teaching sessions as well as M&M meetings once a month. Consultants within the departments are willing to supervise and support successful candidates with audits and QIPs.

Main duties of the job
The requirements of the post include:

  • Identify and appropriately manage clinical problems
  • Prescribe safely
  • Keep an accurate and relevant medical record
  • Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues
  • Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Manage ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems
  • Educate patients effectively
  • Become life-long learners and teachers.

  • Foundation Programme experience and competencies or equivalent
  • Work experience within the NHS
  • An understanding of the importance of the patient as the central focus of care
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and information appropriately.

Skills

  • Competent to perform Venepuncture, IV Cannulation, ABG, Urinary Catheterisation, and NG tube insertion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and Clinical leadership skills
  • Adaptable and able to deal with changing workloads.

Desirable
  • Independent competency in any of: - Ascitic fluid aspiration - Pleural aspiration - Lumbar Puncture.
