Job summary
GP locum to cover Maternity leave. The vacancy is for a maternity locum GP for 6 sessions per week to join their team from November 2026.

Main duties of the job
As a maternity locum GP you will provide cover for a salaried GP while on maternity leave, managing a caseload and dealing with a wide variety of health needs in a primary care setting working individually and as a team to ensure a high standard of care for all registered and temporary patients as you carry out the associated clinical and administrative duties.

About us
We are a friendly, well established and growing semi-rural training practice based south of Bath, with an ethos for a high standard of patient care. We seek to preserve the best of traditional family practice with a willingness to adapt and modernise to ensure a continuing high standard of care to patients with a sustainable work environment. GMS Practice list size 11,500. Four partners, seven salaried GPs, one ANP and one Paramedic Practitioner. Three First Contact Physiotherapists, two PCN Paramedics, Health Connector, PCN Pharmacists and two PCN Pharmacy Technicians. Purpose built main surgery in Beckington, modern branch surgery in Frome Health Centre. Sessions with twelve x 15 minute appointments. Virtually no home visits, visiting paramedics. Dispensing at main site. EMIS web across both sites (planned transition to Medicus in November). Total triage. Established training and teaching Practice. Shared network cover of enhanced access. Part of Mendip PCN. Salary £12,285 per session per year.

Job responsibilities
The duties of the post are to provide cover for a salaried GP while on maternity leave, including a full range of general medical services as contained within the National Health Services (Primary Care) Act 1997 and which will include domiciliary visits as deemed appropriate. The post holder is expected to support the partners of The Beckington Family Practice in providing all services outlined in the GMS Core Contract and also in the aims and objectives of the Practice. The post holder is expected to support and input into the aims of the practice in areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework (or its replacement), enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by the practice. The post holders prescribing should be according to accepted clinical practice and guidance for acute and repeat prescriptions. It should follow practice policies and procedures, e.g. use of formulary and management of repeat prescribing. The post holder is expected to maintain and keep good standards of computerised clinical records at all times. Full involvement in any practice training is expected. The post holder is expected to maintain and keep good standards of paperwork.

Qualifications
  • Qualified GP MRCGP General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
  • Full GMC Registration
  • National Performers List registration
  • Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

Experience
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of continued professional development
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit
  • General understanding of the GMS contract

Skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
  • EMIS/Medicus user skills (but additional training will be provided if needed)
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving & analytical skills
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
  • Experience with audit
  • Experience with clinical risk management
