We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an established practice where teamwork, continuity of care, and patient-centred service are at the heart of everything we do.
Main duties of the jobAs a Practice Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within our GP practice. Your responsibilities will include
- Providing routine nursing care, including wound care, dressings and cervical screening.
- Delivering NHS vaccination and immunisation programmes for adults and children.
- Supporting the management of patients with long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease through reviews and monitoring.
- Performing health promotion activities, including NHS Health Checks, smoking cessation advice, weight management, and lifestyle counselling.
- Undertaking venepuncture, ECGs, blood pressure monitoring, and other routine clinical procedures.
- Administering prescribed medications and injections in accordance with Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or practice protocols.
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records using the practice's clinical system.
- Working collaboratively with GPs, Healthcare Assistants, and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and co-ordinated patient care.
- Participating in infection prevention and control, safeguarding, quality improvement, and clinical audit activities.
- Contributing to the achievement of Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other contractual requirements.

Job descriptionGP Partners and Practice ManagerJob SummaryThe Practice Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients registered with Becontree Medical Centre. Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide a comprehensive range of clinical services, promote health and wellbeing, support the management of long-term conditions, and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
The Practice Nurse will work in accordance with professional standards, national guidelines, and practice policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice, patient safety, and confidentiality.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality nursing care in accordance with evidence-based practice.
- Undertake cervical screening where appropriately trained and competent.
- Administer childhood and adult immunisations in line with national immunisation programmes.
- Deliver seasonal vaccination programmes where appropriate.
- Administer prescribed medicines and injections in accordance with relevant legislation and clinical protocols.
- Perform clinical procedures including venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiography, spirometry where trained, and other diagnostic procedures within competence.
- Assess, manage, and dress wounds using current evidence-based practice.
- Remove sutures and surgical clips.
- Assist with minor surgery and other clinical procedures as required.
- Undertake health checks and support national health screening programmes.
- Provide travel health advice and administer travel vaccinations where appropriately trained.
- Promote healthy lifestyles by providing advice on smoking cessation, weight management, healthy eating, alcohol reduction, and physical activity.
Long-Term Condition Management- Support the assessment, monitoring, and ongoing management of patients with long-term conditions including diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease.
- Deliver care in accordance with agreed clinical pathways and evidence-based guidelines to optimise patient outcomes.
- Recognise changes in a patient's condition and escalate concerns appropriately to General Practitioners or other healthcare professionals.
Professional Responsibilities- Maintain professional registration and practise in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code.
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records.
- Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Participate in mandatory training, continuing professional development, and appraisal.
- Contribute to infection prevention and control, safeguarding, health and safety, and clinical governance activities.
- Support the achievement of practice objectives and national quality standards while delivering compassionate, patient-focused care.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration.
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) relevant to the role.
- Competence in cervical cytology, or willingness to undertake appropriate training.
Desirable- Previous experience working as a Practice Nurse within a primary care setting.
- Independent Nurse Prescriber (V300) qualification.
- Recognised Travel Health qualification or relevant training.
