Job summaryWe are looking to recruit a band 4 assistant occupational therapy and speech and language therapy practitioner in the forensic learning disability community team. The successful applicant will be highly motivated and enthusiastic with a passion for their vocation working with people with learning disabilities and forensic needs.
We provide a community-based service for those residents of Walsall, Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton. Team members are required to work in all areas of the Black Country.
The team uses a multidisciplinary approach, which is based on a joint formulation, and all members of the team participate actively in this process through both partnership work and regular reviews.

Main duties of the jobTo provide both direct and indirect intervention with guidance, direction and supervision from a qualified clinician. To carry out interventions (individual or group) using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. To refer to a qualified Occupational Therapist/Speech and Language Therapist who will oversee the monitoring, evaluation and modification of treatment in order to measure progress and to ensure effective intervention. To screen and monitor risks associated with swallowing disorders as directed by the relevant clinician always escalating risks immediately to a qualified clinician for action. Work with clients/families/other agencies as required independently following appropriate guidance, procedures and following preparation from a qualified clinician. To support and deliver training and therapeutic groups under guidance of qualified clinicians. Under the guidance of qualified clinicians, have responsibility for organising his/her own clinical administration, achieving key performance targets and ensuring a cost-effective quality service.. Responsibility for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous client records (within 24 hours), overseen by a qualified member of clinician, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professional and legal requirements.

Learning Disability Services are provided through
two key care pathways:
the Forensic pathway and the Assessment and Treatment to Independence in the Community Pathway, high quality services for adults with a learning disability.

- Liaise with significant others involved in the management of the client, within and outside the NHS, to ensure the clients needs are met effectively and efficiently.
- To support and deliver training and therapeutic groups under guidance of qualified clinicians.
- Under the guidance of qualified clinicians, have responsibility for organising his/her own clinical administration, achieving key performance targets and ensuring a cost-effective quality service.
- Responsibility for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous client records (within 24 hours), overseen by a qualified member of clinician, in order to ensure compliance with departmental, professional and legal requirements.
- Carry out clinical administrative activity associated with client care, to support the clinical team, including making and cancelling appointments, making and receiving telephone calls, and any other client related administration.
- Undertakes the development and provision of therapy materials to support clinical intervention under the direction of the qualified clinicians.
- Contribute to service development, quality initiatives and the collection of statistical information, as appropriate, to ensure whole-staff ownership and implementation of quality care.
- Adhere to the clinical and quality standards in place within the clinical team.
- The post-holder is subject to annual appraisal and regular supervision so that work targets are set and competencies and development needs can be achieved.
- To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality forensic community team service.
Person SpecificationKnowledge skills and experienceEssential- educational qualifications/experience in working with people with learning disabilities
