Job summaryAn excellent opportunity has arisen for a 12 month secondment Band 7 position to manage and lead within the Older Adult Mental Health directorate on Clara Ward which specialises in Dementia care and is based at Edward Street Hospital West Bromwich.
This is a fantastic opportunity to continue or develop your management and Leadership skills within Older Adults Mental Health and to support junior staff in delivering, high quality care within our dementia inpatient service. The post holder will provide Leadership for the ward and work in close collaboration with the senior leadership team as part of the leadership and management structures that are in place to ensure high quality care throughout the patient pathway.
The ward is supported by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team made up of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, physiotherapy, psychology and our Medical team of Consultants and ward Doctors. The service has a robust leadership team including an Operational Manager for the Hospital and a hospital Matron who feed into the General Manager and the senior leadership team for the OA Division.
Expressions of Interest are invited from experienced Band 6 Nurses to support and lead our service. You should be motivated and forward thinking in your approach and possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in a potentially challenging environment.
Main duties of the job- You will need to provide leadership and support for all staff
- Act as a role model for good clinical, care governance practice
- Operationally manage a ward-based team, supporting staff and patients

Job responsibilitiesOperationally manage a ward based in patient team in accordance with TrustValues. Responsible for the delivery of effective, efficient and high quality services for people with Mental Health illness.
Work in conjunction with the Service Manager, Matron, Head of Nursing, General Manager, Clinical Director and Professional Leads to develop and deliver safe and effective services, in accordance with key national targets, clinical standards, service priorities and performance indicators set by local commissioners and Trust policies.Work in partnership with other professionals to provide multi-agency services that achieve the best possible outcomes for people admitted to the centre.The post holder will support and oversee operational delivery of the team; they will be required to work autonomously in order to address issues impacting on clinical care, quality, service delivery, with overall support and strategic direction from the Operational Service Manager.The ward manager will promote a culture of Recovery and least restrictive practice for patients admitted to the unit through role modelling and team development.
Person SpecificationEssential- Relevant operational experience at Band 6 level or higher
- Evidence or understanding of managing a budget
- Evidence of managing a workforce or team
- Evidence of providing supervision or training to other staff
- Has a recognised professional qualification for Nursing or AHP
