Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen on Moorgate ward at the Harbour for a fixed term / secondment for 9 months to the ward manager band 7 position. The secondment is ideal for those who already have established experience as a band 6 RMN and who wish to build on their development and experience, as well as being a fantastic opportunity for already established band 7 who want to experience a challenge on a busy male PICU.

The successful candidate will bring excellent role modelling skills, a passion for supporting and developing junior colleagues, including student nurses and they should have a keen interest in quality improvement projects that can lead to improvements in patient care and staff wellbeing.

You should bring with you experience of nursing people with acute mental health needs, have experience of supporting colleagues and students with development, and a "can-do" attitude.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to work across a shift pattern, being part of a team that provides 24/7 care and treatment to male service users on a busy, 8 bedded PICU ward at the Harbour. There will be occasions when you may need to support other wards, including our male and female adult and older adult wards at the Harbour.

Responsibilities will include supporting and developing learners in practice; shift leading, administering medication, shift work, engaging with patients to support recovery, including leading on dialog+ assessments; ensuring that the clinical environments meet high infection control and cleaning standards; representing the ward at meetings which may involve preparing and presenting reports; administering medication and monitoring for side effects; completing physical health checks on patients and escalating concerns as and where required; supporting colleagues with supervision and appraisal conversations; rostering and daily oversight of staffing levels; leading on MDT meetings; facilitating team meetings and away days; oversight of staff sickness and absence including forging close working relationships with teams such as HR.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse.
  • Post reg. learning and development relevant to the role.
  • Mentorship qualification.

Knowledge
Essential
  • Understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and practice of Mental Health Act 1983
  • Knowledge and practice of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Demonstrate understanding of how research has influenced practice
  • Can provide evidence of recent professional/personal development

Experience
Essential
  • Post graduate experience at Clinical Leader level
  • Supervision and management of staff
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of assessing, planning, implementing and reviewing care needs
