Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Uro-Radiologist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality radiology service within a busy imaging department as part of the Uro-radiology team. This is a full time 10 PA job fixed term for 12 months.

The successful candidate will join a team of 34 other Consultant Radiologists in Bradford and contribute to the non-vascular interventional on call rota (NVIR) of 1:10.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute services for the City of Bradford and surrounding areas, and has two large Hospitals; Bradford Royal Infirmary and St. Luke's Hospital and is also part of the Eccleshill Diagnostic Centre. All main specialties are represented in Bradford, and the Trust has a base of 900 beds.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will work closely with three colleagues with special interest in Uro-radiology, Urologists and Renal Medicine physicians at Bradford Teaching Hospitals. Specialist activities include Stone MDT, Urology Cancer MDT, and all Uro-interventions including Trans perineal prostate biopsies and Nephrostomy.

Home working, home reporting and extended working days may be negotiable following review with the CSU lead with, depending on service requirements, up-to one non-working day or up-to one day working from home.

Training: The Radiology Department within the Bradford Trust forms part of the West Yorkshire Training Academy in Radiology with rotations of Specialist Registrars.

Trainees on the Scheme usually spend one or two six month periods in Bradford as part of their "basic training" and there are options for both General and Specialist attachments in Bradford during their "higher training".

There are currently 20 trainees appointed to Bradford at any one time. Radiologists are expected to mentor as Clinical Supervisors and are encouraged to take on Educational Trainees following appropriate training. There is a responsibility to undertake appropriate teaching of health care professionals within the Trust. Undergraduate medical students from Leeds have clinical attachments within the Trust and Radiology Department.

Job responsibilities
In addition to specialist UroRadiology service, the appointee will support:

General Acute service: Radiologists are expected to contribute to the weekly rota to provide Duty Radiologist or Inpatient CT or MR hot reporting. They are expected to check overnight on call reports and support trainees with acute general reporting.

Intervention on call: There are currently 6 radiologists on the NVIR rota providing a 1:10 service with locum gaps. Interventions most commonly performed are nephrostomy, abdominal and chest drainages and chest drain for pneumothorax, supported by radiographic and nursing staff. There is a separate Vascular IR rota.

Specialty: The radiologist will join their specialty colleagues to report from the specialty reporting basket in PACS (AGFA EI) as well as acute reporting baskets. They will prepare and attend Specialty cancer MDTs and clinical meetings and will be expected to be available to respond to specialist queries. They are expected to have dedicated intervention lists using US, CT and fluoroscopy - this job will require full independence in trans perineal prostate biopsies, nephrostomy insertion and the ability to assist in joint endo-urology theatre cases, including PCNL.

The post-holder is managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of the Clinical Service Unit in the first instance and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer at BTHFT. The CSU leadership team comprises the Clinical Director, General Manager, Deputy General Manager and Workforce and Quality Manager, supported by Administrative Managers and Modality Superintendent Radiographers.

Qualifications

• MBChB or equivalent
• MRCP or FRCS of equivalent to specialty (UK) or equivalent
• Member of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) or equivalent
