Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for Sonographers to join our very friendly and dedicated multi-disciplinary team at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will work primarily within the Paediatric Radiology Department at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) and across Bristol City and Weston Operating unit sites as required.

Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), also known as the Bristol Children's Hospital, is a paediatric hospital in Bristol and the only paediatric major trauma centre in South West England.

Working as part of a highly skilled team, you will deliver a wide range of specialised paediatric ultrasound examinations, contributing to high-quality patient care across the following areas:

• Abdominal, renal and pelvic imaging - including pre/post-pubertal uterine morphology and acute abdominal presentations such as appendicitis
• Neonatal imaging - hips (required), spine and cranial ultrasound (preferred, but not essential)
• Testicular ultrasound (preferred, but not essential)
• Neck and thyroid imaging (preferred, but not essential)
• MSK ultrasound (preferred, but not essential)

There is also the opportunity to gain experience in additional ultrasound techniques such as:

• Liver elastography
• Post-transplant liver/ renal imaging
• Contrast ultrasound

Candidates must hold a CASE accredited PgCert / Dip / MSc or DMU qualification in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
Your role will include (but will not be limited to):

• perform a wide range of paediatric ultrasound examinations.
• provide diagnostic report of examinations according to the level of authorisation agreed.
• participate in service provision across the different sites as required.
• Communicate and liaise with patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will:

• have experience in the ultrasound ultrasound techniques and a thorough understanding of their application in a range of examinations, specialising in paediatrics
• have previous NHS experience .
• be competent in independent reporting in ultrasound
• demonstrate a commitment to maintain the highest standards of imaging and service delivery.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience/ qualilfications
Essential

• Comprehensive and extensive knowledge and experience in ultrasound modality with specialist interest in Paediatric ultrasound
• Competency in independent reporting with enhanced clinical reasoning skills
• Previous NHS ultrasound experience in paediatric ultrasound
• Excellent organisational and time management, planning and prioritisation skills
• Excellent communication and counselling skills
• Able to work as part of a team and also independently

Desirable

• Able to instruct and supervise others
• Research and development skills

Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or PG Certificate / Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound from a CASE approved University or equivalent
• Registration - HCPC or Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT)
• BSc (Hons) Radiography or equivalent
