Description

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Grade Doctor to join the Bristol Heart Institute. It is envisaged that the post-holder will principally manage the patients on the ward, assisting and co-ordinating the care of acutely unwell patients and also facilitating patient flow. Supporting and training of junior medical staff and close working with the consultant body is also anticipated. The post holder will also attend the outpatient clinic and see general cardiology patients. There is also opportunity to develop or continue to pursue a specialist interest such as echocardiography or pacing, although other areas of interest could be considered.

The post is whole-time (10 PA) and in accordance with Trust policy for SAS appointments, a minimum of 1PA will be available for supporting professional activities.

We are looking for dynamic individuals who want to join our team. The post-holder will be provided with an adequately equipped office, including information technology facilities and will have secretarial and administrative support.

The post-holder will also have responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Division and the Trust.

Applicants should hold MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification and should be on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register, and have at least one year of NHS experience.

Main duties of the job
Clinical
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales.

Specifically, this post will support the management of patients on the ward. Regular ward round commitments to manage patients on a day-to-day basis. As this is one of 3 SAS posts we would anticipate cross cover of ward commitments.

The post holder will also attend the out-patient clinic twice weekly and have the opportunity to develop a specialist interest of their choosing.

There is no on call commitment attached to this post. However, optional uptake of any ad-hoc gaps on the Cardiology SpR rota can be considered outside of normal working times.

Non-Clinical
The post-holder will have responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Trust and University.
