Description

Job Summary
Working part time: 8.5 Sessions per week. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join the Neurodevelopmental Team at The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for six months. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated and forward-thinking team, committed to delivering high-quality clinical care to children and young people across Chester.

As a Consultant colleague, you will be part of a wider paediatric workforce that includes 13 Consultant General Paediatricians and a range of other medical professionals within our fully integrated directorate.

The post is offered as a part-time position (8.5 programmed activities). However, applications from candidates wishing to job share or work less than full time are warmly welcomed.

There is scope within the service to tailor specific roles and responsibilities to the successful applicant, taking into account both individual and evolving service needs.

Main Duties of the Job
The directorate provides comprehensive health services for children in Chester and the surrounding areas, working loosely with Local Authority partners to develop and deliver children's services in line with national policy.

The post holder will work collaboratively with a broad range of professionals, including paramedical services (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists), Specialist Nurses, Health Visitors, and School Nursing teams. Community work also involves close liaison with Local Authority teams - including the Local Education Authority and Social Care - and with voluntary sector organisations. Strong and effective working relationships are already well established with our secretarial and administrative staff. We also maintain excellent collaborative relationships with colleagues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and participate in established clinical networks with Consultants at the regional tertiary centre, Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

About Us
The Trust's services are provided from three locations: o The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds. o Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility. o Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population. The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust employs 5,964 staff (headcount) to provide care and treatment to a population of over 400,000 people living in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System. Due to its location on the border with North Wales, the Trust also works closely with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust treats patients from England and some parts of Wales. During 2024/2025, there were approximately 643,000 patient attendances (inpatient, A&E, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery.
