Job Summary
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) are delighted to offer an exciting Band 6 post within the Newcastle & Gateshead Crisis Team. The post holder will be part of a team working under the crisis model and will be able to offer support universally across the WAA, OA and YP crisis teams where required. The successful candidate must have a track record of clinical experience in working with risk and complexity. This will be an extremely exciting opportunity for any successful candidate and you will be joining an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated team.

Main Duties of the Job
The Newcastle & Gateshead Crisis Team provides urgent mental health assessment and intervention to individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. The team works 24/7 to deliver high-quality, responsive care and prevent hospital admissions where safe and appropriate. As a development post holder, you will:
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering crisis assessment and care
  • Develop your clinical decision-making, risk assessment, and crisis intervention skills
  • Contribute to care planning and liaise with partner services
  • Build confidence in autonomous practice within a supportive environment

What We Are Looking For
We are seeking candidates who:
  • Have a strong interest in crisis intervention and acute mental health care
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, assessment, and interpersonal skills
  • Are committed to professional development and progression
  • Can work flexibly as part of a 24/7 service

Experience in acute or community mental health settings is desirable but not essential.

Additional Information
This role involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Candidates must be able to travel as required across the service area.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential
  • Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
  • Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post
  • Mentor Training
  • Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection
  • Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation
  • Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post

Desirable
  • Post Registration Qualifications in Psychological Interventions
  • Experience of working within a community team
  • Non-Medical Prescribing

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need
  • Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives

Desirable
  • Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours

Skills and Competencies

  • Proven ability to complete comprehensive assessment of complex mental health needs
  • Risk Assessment Skill & Management
  • Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others)
  • Ability to adapt within a changing environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
