Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Consultant within the Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry Team. The post is based at the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle.
Main duties of the jobWe are seeking an experienced and innovative Nurse Consultant in Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry to provide clinical leadership for a developing specialist service supporting children and young people presenting with mental health needs within the acute hospital setting.
Based at the Great North Children's Hospital, you will lead the delivery of high-quality assessment, intervention and consultation across the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, working closely with paediatric, mental health and community partners. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new service that improves outcomes for children, young people and their families, while driving excellence in clinical practice, education, research and service development.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished senior mental health nurse with extensive experience of working with children and young people, strong leadership skills, and a passion for integrated care.

Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationEssential- First level Registered Nurse
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Postgraduate qualification at Masters level or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Evidence of experience in therapeutic interventions relevant to specialty, i.e. nurse Prescribing, CBT, DBT, PSI, EFT, NLP and Family Interventions, Group work
- Advanced level therapeutic training in one of the above modalities
Desirable- Doctorate or working towards
- Nurse Prescribing Course or will work towards
- Responsible Clinician status (or working toward)
Knowledge and ExperienceEssential- Extensive experience of working within areas relevant to designated team.
- Experience of working therapeutically with adults of all ages
- Substantial experience in a nursing leadership role
- Have led service development changes, awareness of the evolving healthcare agenda and the implications for nursing.
- Experience of research and development into practice
- Evidence of facilitating quality improvement in practice
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues
- Experience of training and education / lecturing within higher education field
Desirable- Experience of contributing to the development of nursing at a regional / national level
- Experience of contributing towards service development at an organisational / regional / national level
- Exposure to the corporate development of nursing services
- Experience of taking on the role of Responsible Clinician
