To provide clinical care for patients referred to General Surgery at Dartford and Gravesham NHSTrust and other related activities to ensure a high standard of service and education. Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an applicant who has experience in Emergency and Elective General Surgery to support the provision and development of service. Work as an emergency general surgeon and to be involved in a sub-specialist area of surgery that will complement the interests of the department- benign upper gi. The successful applicant will work within the multidisciplinary establishment with outpatient General Surgery clinics, an endoscopy list and elective theatre lists across both sites DVH and QMS. This post offers 10 PAs of combined direct clinical and supporting programmed activity.

Job responsibilitiesThe appointee would be expected to be proficient in laparoscopic and general surgery. This is a replacement post, and the appointee will contribute to the emergency general surgery service, and weekends on call rota 1:11.
The appointee is expected to undertake teaching duties and to play a full part in the clinical governance of general surgery. The Consultant will have a team consisting of a middle-grade surgeon & shared juniors at the FY1/FY2/FY3/CTs and Clinical Fellow level. Junior doctors across the department provide crosscover for leave and absence. Firm Structure will be split into two firms to support inpatient and emergency care.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registerable medical qualification, MRCS/FRCS Orthopaedic
- GMC registration
DesirableTraining and experienceEssential- oWide experience in all aspects of colorectal field

- oAdvanced Endoscopic procedures
Desirable- oNational Bowel screening accreditation
AuditEssential- Understanding of principles of clinical audit
- Evidence of previous audit
AdministrationEssential- Experience in working in a Surgical Unit
Desirable- Familiar with the NHS structure and new directives/targets
ManagementEssential- Leadership and Budgetary skills. Good interpersonal relationship
Desirable- Previous management experience, Courses.
