Job summary
To work as part of the established nursing team on SDEC and to provide excellent person-centred care for patients across multi specialities, whilst adhering to the NMC Code of Conduct.

Main duties of the job
Applicant must be an UK NMC registered Adult Nurse, with a minimum of 2 years experience and evidence of recent CPD. As a minimum, must be able to administer IV medication.

Experience of ED, Acute Medicine, Acute Surgical would be desirable.

Must be up to date with BLS (and preferably ILS - or willingness to work towards).

Competence in blood product administration would be beneficial.

Ability to work effectively as part of an efficient nursing team.

Ability to build working relationships with SDEC colleagues and the wider MDT.

Job responsibilities

• Administer medications to patients, including intravenously
• Carry out clinical skills as required, including but not limited to; clinical observations, neurological observations, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, bladder scans, female catheterisation, wound dressings
• Administer blood products
• Support NIC with patient flow by completing tasks in a timely fashion, and by transferring patients to wards/scans as requested
• Develop effective working relationships with MDT
• Participate in team huddles to ensure optimal communication
• Utilise clinical systems such as EPMA, vital pac, ICE, CareFlow
• Ensure thorough discharges are complete with appropriate safety netting
• Providing SBAR handovers to wards should patients require admission
• Must be able to communicate effectively and manage time
• May be required to support in ED if asked by the NIC

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential

• Registered nurse (Adult)
• Evidence of CPD
• BLS / Immediate Life Support Training
• Intravenous Administration of medicines

Desirable

• Cannulation, venepuncture (or willingness to work towards)
• Administration of blood products
• Teaching and Mentoring competency (preferable)

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential

• 2 years post registration experience in an acute hospital setting
• Understanding of professional nursing values

Desirable

• Understanding of SDEC

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Essential

• Evidence of ability to practice as a proficient practitioner
• Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors
• Understanding of confidentiality, information governance and the Caldicott principles
• Evidence of excellent communication skills across a range of personnels
• Evidence of ability to manage time effectively

Desirable

• Demonstrate an understanding of risk management
