Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Registered Nurse to join the District Nursing Service covering East Dorset; on a 12month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave working 25hpw with in the Crane Valley team.
The role of the Community Staff Nurse has changed over the years and we are now looking after complex patients in their home environments. The skills required for Community Nursing included complex wound management, palliative care and end of life care, medicines management, IV drug administration as well as having a high standard of holistic assessment and care planning skills.
Training is available within the Trust for the successful applicant.

The team work closely with members of the wider multi-disciplinary teams including local Hospices, Complex Care Nurses, Health and Social Care Coordinators, Specialist Nurses and Therapist colleagues. The team is also supported by Intermediate Care Service and utilises our community hospitals for patients' rehabilitation.
Main duties of the jobCare of patients at home, requiring nursing care to include diabetes management, complex wound care (including compression bandaging & dopplers), IV management, end of life care, injections and pressure area care to mention a few!
To provide a high quality person centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.
To undertake assessment of patients / service users care needs, and develop programmes of care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.
To provide advice to patients/ service users and carers regarding their care.
To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.
Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and junior staff in the team.

Person SpecificationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING- Registered practitioner to degree/diploma level
- Membership of the relevant Professional Body
- Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training
- Evidence of recent professional development in an up to date portfolio
PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES- Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation and with staff, patient/service users, visitors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of complex, sensitive or contentious information which may require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
- Ability to use own initiative within sphere of authority
- Willingness to advance own clinical knowledge, skill and competence based on current evidence
- Able to analyse and assess situations and to interpret potentially conflicting situations and determine appropriate action, where there is a range of options and judgement is required.
JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE- Supervised experience gained during clinical placements
- Ability to mentor students / supervise other junior staff
- Demonstrable knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions in area of practice
Desirable- Recent previous experience within a comparable role
- Advanced wound care experience, end of life care
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE- Experience of demonstrating duties to junior staff
