Job summary
Are you an experienced and adaptable Clinical Practitioner looking to join an innovative team? Our Integrated Front Door (IFD) team within our Dorset Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service has a unique opportunity to transform how children, young people, families, and professionals access mental health support.

As the Senior Clinical Practitioner, you will be in a pivotal role, eager to help shape our future and thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment. CYPMH Dorset is entering an exciting period of growth, with new investments enabling us to enhance our services in line with Thrive principles. This role will evolve as we develop, beginning with supporting existing teams from a temporary base during the transition. Positions are pan-Dorset, and the future service will include extended operational hours as we expand.

As the first point of clinical contact, you will offer timely assessments of need, advice and signposting, to ensure safe triage to the appropriate pathway. You will exercise advanced clinical judgment and decision-making skills, working collaboratively across care systems.

We support you to build skills, influence initiatives, and grow professionally. This is a full-time post; and would welcome any part time applicants, including weekend and evening working to promote work life balance.

Main duties of the job
The ECP will have strong, demonstrable clinical experience of working therapeutically with children and young people with mental health presentations and their families. The post holder will work cohesively alongside the Team Leaders, Clinical Lead and Clinical Service Manager and other ECP providing robust clinical leadership, supporting the team with complex cases, hold a caseload within their professional and clinical competence, contribute to multi-agency meetings by providing expert clinical input and promoting the role of CAMHS.

You will provide inspirational clinical leadership to the team, promoting positive outcomes for the young people of Dorset by ensuring that the service provides high quality interventions and offering.
  • Receive and respond to referrals into CYPMH via the Integrated Front Door.
  • Apply evidence-based clinical judgment to assess needs and formulate care plans.
  • Escalate high-risk cases and ensure robust risk management and provide specialist mental health advice and consultation to professionals.
  • Champion integrated working across agencies and contribute to service development.
  • Support the clinical development of team members and mentor colleagues.

Person Specification
Knowledge, Skills & Training
Essential
  • Post graduate degree level study or equivalent in relevant profession.
  • Current registration with appropriate professional body, eg NMC / HCPC / UKCP
  • Core professional qualifications as Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Applied Psychologist, Occupational Therapist or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience of working at Band 6 with young people their families and carers.
  • The experience and ability to provide clinical and/or management supervision.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly in difficult and highly complex situations.
  • Experience of assessing, planning and implementing programmes of care, for young people
Desirable
  • Ability to supervise clinically at an advanced level
  • Clinical Supervisor Training

Job Specific Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable experience of working as part of a CAMHS Team
  • Experience of effective working with multidisciplinary teams and other agencies.
  • Experience of making judgements in complex operational or clinical matters
  • Experience of working with safeguarding issues and contributing to training within a safeguarding environment.

Managerial / supervisory experience
Essential
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with all staff to ensure programmes of care are implemented.
  • Ability to carry out clinical supervision effectively.
Desirable
  • Evidence of effective staff management, including management of individual and team performance
  • Demonstrable experience of leading/managing a multi professional team

Personal qualities / attributes
Essential
  • Able to influence and work with local partners in health and social care developing new services.
  • Evidence of resilience in a range of complex and demanding situations
  • Willingness to explore new ways of working with services and delivery and encourage staff to do so.
  • Ability to manage time and conflicting demands, and prioritise workload of self and that of others accordingly.

Business travel
Essential
  • Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act 2010, able travel using own vehicle on Trust business.
  • Able to travel between sites
