Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and committed Consultant to join our vibrant Diabetes and Endocrine team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. We are seeking a clinician with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across both inpatient and outpatient settings.

As a key member of our forward-thinking department, you will work collaboratively with a wide range of multidisciplinary colleagues to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for our patients. Our team places strong emphasis on innovation, service development, and shared learning, offering an environment where you can contribute meaningfully while continuing to grow professionally.

This role is ideal for a dynamic Consultant who values teamwork, strives for clinical excellence, and is eager to be part of a supportive and progressive service dedicated to improving outcomes for people living with diabetes and endocrine conditions.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide specialist clinics in diabetes and endocrinology, contribute to general medical ward and diabetes outreach care, and the acute medicine on call rota.
  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in continuing medical education

Job responsibilities
There will be an opportunity to review the job plan with the successful applicant. Job plans and on call are agreed on appointment with the Clinical Director. Job plans are then subject to review annually. This Job Plan is for 8PA. Which day off to be taken can be discussed with the Clinical Director.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Training
Essential
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment

Desirable
  • Postgraduate academic degree

Previous Experience
Essential
  • Broad range of experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology and experience of Acute General Medicine
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Skills
Essential
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
