Job summary
To lead the development and enhancement of professional education and clinical training.

To provide leadership, planning and co-ordination in the development of practice education across the Teesside sexual health footprint and 4 local authority commissioned areas.

To raise the profile of the Practice Education role and represent the team at external and internal meetings with key stakeholders.

To work in partnership with Primary Care, appropriate Secondary Care, and other key stakeholders ensuring staff across the sexual health and social care spectrum have the skills and competencies to deliver elements of provision in STI screening, treatment and contraception.

To lead the development and implementation of a sexual health education strategy across the Teesside Together alliance, ensuring a sustainable, competent and future ready workforce capable of meeting current and emerging service needs.

To ensure that best practice and up to date guidance is followed.

Key Responsibilities
  • The post holder will be responsible for overseeing training needs, planning, implementation and evaluating the education and training of all clinical staff involved in the provision of sexual health care across Teesside.
  • They will lead the continuous improvement of sexual health education and training programmes, ensuring they are evidence-based, innovative, responsive to service need and aligned to national best practice.

Main duties of the job
Internal
  • Ensure sexual health workforce are compliant with all competencies and skills required to deliver an integrated sexual health service.
  • Support and assess colleagues to ensure these competencies are achieved and maintained.
  • Develop a robust training plan, with time scales, for new colleagues to meet the competencies and skills required to complete the Diploma via FRSH.
  • Undertake all formal assessments both academic and practical to ensure all delegates are competent in skills and knowledge, and to support the delegate to achieve letter of competency from FSRH.
  • Assess and develop a training programme for HCAs to ensure competencies are up to date and relevant.
  • Lead collaborative working with universities and other organisations supporting practice placements in sexual health: work with Lead Nurses to manage placements across all four localities in the service areas.

External
  • Work closely with the Clinical Lead/Service Manager, to assist in identifying key partners who would benefit from sexual health education and training, and support expansion of system resilience and capacity
  • Work specifically with Primary Care and Pharmacy providers and identified Secondary Care areas in the development of competency-based training in sexual health for STI screening and contraception provision, including LARC delivery.

Teesside Together is an Alliance Partnership between University Hospital Tees and the two local GP federations (ELM Alliance Ltd and Hartlepool and Stockton Health), working together to deliver high quality, accessible sexual health services for people living in our communities.

We offer our services from locations in Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar as well as a wider range of community settings via our outreach team. We also work in partnership with a number of local general practices and primary care networks to offer contraception services close to where people live.

Job responsibilities
External
  • Work closely with the Clinical Lead/ Service Manager, to assist in identifying key partners who would benefit from Sexual Health Education and Training, and support expansion of system resilience and capacity
  • Work specifically with Primary Care and Pharmacy providers and identified secondary care areas in the development of competency-based training in Sexual Health for STI screening and contraception provision, including LARC delivery.
  • Ensure the educational/development needs of the Clinicians are identified and an individualised education programme is developed and implemented in partnership via a learning contract.
  • Undertake all formal assessments both academic and practical to ensure all delegates are competent in skills and knowledge, to support the delegate to achieve letter of competency from FSRH.
  • To monitor the Clinicians progress throughout any practical placement, liaising with the staff as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with Strategic Lead, work closely with identified community areas to develop delivery of Sexual Health via outreach provision and or support to their workforce.
  • Support pathways for robust referral /and or communication in and out of the service

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registration with NMC
  • Nurse prescribing qualification
  • LARC fitting/removal qualification and competencies in contraception
  • FSRH Faculty Registered Trainer Qualification

Desirable
  • Post-graduate training in a field relevant to sexual and reproductive health
  • Fulfilling the criteria to apply for the 'General Training Programme Director' position through the College of Sexual and reproductive Health

Experience
Essential
  • Experience in training and development
  • Experience of team working
  • Experience of stakeholder engagement and partnership working
  • Experience of quality improvement, service development, and workforce transformation
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective relationships across multiple organisations and professional groups

  • Computer literacy
  • Good understanding of current public health issues
  • Clear understanding of contraception needs and training in a GP environment

  • Experience of leading educational programmes across organisational boundaries
