Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has now arisen and we are in the position to recruit a Band 5 Staff Nurse to be part of dynamic, multi-disciplinary team working at our Henneage Ward in Colchester.
Please note: applicants must have held NMC registration for a minimum of two years.
We offer a service which is provided by a team that shares the workload fairly, acknowledges individual abilities and skills and recognises the individual staff member's responsibility when providing care. Staff support and supervision are integral to our service. The Ward team is multidisciplinary, consisting of Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrist, Clerical staff, domestics, Physio therapy staff and occupational therapists with close liaison with Social Services, and other related disciplines.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work under the overall supervision of a Band 6 or 7 Supervisor; however, the post holder will be required to work without direct supervision. In addition, following a period of Preceptorship and agreement with the Ward Manager, the post holder will at times take the lead of junior staff, and will be designated to take charge of the ward on a regular basis.
- Assessments, Implementation and evaluation of inpatient treatment plans
- Accurate and timely risk assessments
- Supervision of junior staff
- Providing training for qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and post basic students
All of the above will be an integral part of the role.

Person SpecificationEducation/QualificationsEssential- Registered Mental Health Nurse
- NMC registration for a minimum of two years
Desirable- Mentorship qualification
- ENB 998 or equivalent
- Evidence of post graduate study
Skills/ExperienceEssential- Knowledge of Mental Health Act & Mental Capacity Act. Good communication skills both verbal and written.
- Organisational and time management skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively and compassionately with clients with a wide range of clinical presentations including mental illness, neurodiversity and learning disabilities
Desirable- Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
