Job summary
We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Community Mental Health Team on the Isle of Wight.

The successful applicant will work autonomously and as part of the wider team to provide clinical leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care within Community Mental Health Service (CMHS).

This is a key role in supporting the Team Leaders, and the Service Manager with providing clinical leadership to the service. you will support the team with complex clinical support and advice. The role will also provide clinical leadership for the clinic team and working closely with the doctors, psychologists and pharmacist.

Main duties of the job

• To be responsible and accountable for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care for people allocated within the designated pathway
• Attending governance and quality meetings
• Supporting with managing complaints, mental health act tribunals and investigation
• Completing of action plans in line with, service improvements
• To provide high quality care and treatment in conjunction with other professionals and work in partnership with other agencies to provide seamless, flexible services which meet the needs of patients and their carers to reach their care planned goals
• To ensure accurate and comprehensive assessments and risk management plans are in place and reviewed as required
• To initiate and monitor pharmacological treatments in line with own competency, and access appropriate supervision in relation to this
• To signpost or refer service users to appropriate teams/agencies for appropriate treatment and support
• To provide clinical oversight and supervision for the mental health practitioners within the service.
• To work in conjunction with the Team Lead and other senior staff to ensure the timely and effective use of resources to meet the needs of the service users
• To be a point of escalation within the team for complex clinical cases
• To provide clinical supervision to clinicians as required within the team
• To contribute to training and development of colleagues within the team

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Nurse (Mental Health) with live NMC registration
• Supplementary or Independent non-medical prescribing qualification (or commitment to undertake this course)
• Nurse Mentorship/Practice Assessor Qualification or equivalent qualification to supervise nursing students
• Current, clean driving licence
• Evidence of on-going professional development and post-registration training
• Evidence of training in risk assessment and risk management

Desirable

• Training in providing clinical supervision

Experience
Essential

• Effective time management and prioritisation skills
• Experience in the assessment and management of people with complex mental health conditions including serious mental illness
• Ability to work effectively in urgent/crisis situations in order to maintain the safety of both staff and clients
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with service users and colleagues across multi-disciplinary groups
• Ability to demonstrate a creative and flexible approach in order to deliver a high standard of care
• Ability to provide clinical supervision to colleagues
• Knowledge of and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care plans
• Evidence of undertaking clinical audits and effectively using the data from these audits for quality improvement/service development purposes

Essential

• The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills, listening skills and communication skills
• The post holder will have the ability to work effectively in urgent/crisis situations in order to assess service user's needs and implement appropriate support and/or treatment options

• The post holder will be innovative, creative and demonstrate a willingness to try new ideas for the benefit of improving the service
