Job summaryOpen to Oral Surgery & Maxillofacial Surgery consultantsWe are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic consultant to lead our dental alveolar and maxillofacial service across the Basingstoke and Winchester population. You won't be joining an established machine and fitting into it -- you'll be helping define what this service becomes.
The post is primarily based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, with opportunities to work collaboratively across our network of partner organisations. Importantly, there is no on-call commitment associated with this role.

Main duties of the jobThis is a full-time Consultant Oral Surgery appointment comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver high-quality consultant-led Oral Surgery services within Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of the Oral Surgery service across Winchester and Basingstoke.
- Assess, diagnose and manage the full range of Oral Surgery conditions.
- Develop and expand the dento-alveolar surgery service, supporting appropriate patient pathways into the wider OMFS service.
- Undertake day-case operating lists and local anaesthetic clinics, with flexibility to meet patient demand.
- Participate in multidisciplinary working with colleagues across Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dentistry and associated specialties.
- Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service innovation.
- Provide consultant supervision and support for junior medical and dental staff.
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and contribute to training within the department.
There is no requirement to participate in an on-call rota.

Job responsibilitiesThe Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery service operates as part of a collaborative regional network with:
- University Hospital Southampton
- Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford
Services are delivered across both Winchester and Basingstoke, with consultants working collaboratively between organisations. This creates excellent opportunities for cross-site working, regional collaboration and shared service development.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with neighbouring Trusts and contribute to regional initiatives supporting Oral Surgery and OMFS services.
There is real scope here to lead, not simply deliver:
- Expand the dental alveolar service to meet growing local need
- Develop general maxillofacial provision within the Trust
- Build and strengthen inter-Trust working relationships with Southampton and Guildford
- Shape how primary, secondary and tertiary care integrate for this population
- Lead and develop a small team with the latitude to build the culture and standards you want to see
Person SpecificationTraining and qualificationsEssential- Comprehensive training and experience across the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
- Experience managing dento-alveolar surgery and outpatient Oral Surgery services.
Leadership and ManagementEssential- Evidence of involvement in clinical leadership and service development.
