Job summary
Job Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen, for a Salaried GP, to work within Haslington Surgery, working alongside experienced GP Partners and Salaried GPs.

The Practice has a commitment to excellent patient care, quality improvement and learning. It is expected that all members of our clinical team, including the new Salaried GP, are actively committed to supporting these aims and participate in relevant activities when appropriate.

Location: Haslington, CW1 5QY.

Benefits: NHS Pension, On-site parking, Opportunities to work on local PCN projects in the role.

Working pattern: The role is for a maximum of six sessions Salaried GP, working Monday, Weds and Friday am and pm, with an opportunity to increase to eight sessions in the next 12 to 18 months.

Main duties of the job
Brief overview of the role:
  • Completion of consultations, using a mixture of face to face and telephone methods.
  • The Surgery uses Accurx to engage and communicate with patients. Online consultation and communication with patients using this platform will form part of the job role.
  • Involvement in On Call GP, on a fair share basis.
  • Involvement in the Care Home LES, supporting our Care Home patients, on a fair share basis.
  • Involvement in our Own Extended Access clinics, on a fair share basis. These are delivered in the week 6:30pm to 8pm.
  • Involvement in Flu and Covid vaccine clinics.
  • Other clinics, to the interest of the post holder.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, to discuss patient progress and care strategies.
  • Involvement in audits, to improve the practice.

About us
Haslington Surgery is a two Partner practice, located in a small village in Cheshire. We have a clinical team including three Salaried GPs, four Nurses, one GPA, two Care Coordinators, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and a Social Prescriber. This is supported by a Practice Manager working with a small administration and reception team. We form part of the local SMASH PCN group of Surgeries, working together to focus on local patient care and to deliver local services.

Together we are a friendly team who work closely and meet on a regular basis to promote continuous learning and professional development for all.

We are supportive of professional development work in a supportive and friendly environment.

The Surgery delivers services to 6250 patients, including one Nursing Home. We operate from a premises that is currently being reviewed for extension, providing additional clinical rooms and meeting space.

We have an active PPG, meeting every other Month, and we deliver regular Wellbeing events, at the local village hall, focusing on patient engagement and promoting patient healthcare.

Job responsibilities
Job summary: The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities:
  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • The post holder will be expected to deliver all requirements of the DES and the LES, as seen fit by the business. This may include visits to care home and patients homes, to deliver services.
  • Need to change to accommodate business needs, in light of new, or unforeseen, developments. For example Covid.
  • Active participation in local initiatives, including QOF work.
  • The post holder will be expected to deliver all requirements of the DES and LES, through the PCN and CCG.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidenced-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Person Specification
Qualifications - Essential
  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent JCPTGP
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
  • Full GMC registration
  • Performers List registration noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation
  • Appropriate defence indemnity
  • Evidence of current validation
  • Evidence of last appraisal
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

Qualifications - Desirable
  • Experience of medicines management
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
  • Understanding and knowledge of QOF and enhanced service
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
  • Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required
