Description

Job Summary
This will be a part time role 3 days per week.

Band 7a-8a depending on experience

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified clinical psychologist to develop and/or build upon existing neuropsychological and neurobehavioural skills and knowledge. St Peters Hospital is a 51-bedded neuropsychiatric hospital based in Langstone, Newport. It caters for people with organic conditions, including dementia, Huntingtons disease, alcohol-related brain damage, and acquired brain injury. The people we support and treat often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms, including behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and values-driven person to join our psychology team.

Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will deliver psychological input across the hospital. The postholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including Senior Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Physiotherapists. The department currently consists of 3.0 WTE Assistant Psychologists, 1WTE Clinical Psychologist and is overseen by a 0.8WTE Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will have a key role in informing and providing effective, evidence-based care pathways within the service.

About Us
St Peters Hospital is increasingly recognised as a centre of excellence and best practice. We are rigorous in following professional, clinical and policy guidance in order to support high quality care. We take a recovery and person-centred perspective to all of our work and are committed to the current agenda around reducing restrictive practice and improving relationally focused care. The successful candidate will provide clinical support, training and consultancy to our staff teams and there will be opportunities to inform service development.

Our organisation places a strong emphasis and value on psychological services and will invest in your ongoing development. You will be part of a large clinical services department across our group with access to clinical and forensic psychologists and allied health professionals. Research and networking interests are supported and encouraged. We have good links with local clinical training courses and academic centres.

Although the predominant focus of work is neuropsychology and dementia, there are opportunities for working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems, forensic histories and learning disabilities. Staff team work and risk assessment / management are components of the role. Therefore, we welcome applications from interested candidates who may have experience in specialties outside of neuropsychology, and would consider creating a job plan with a focus upon one or more of these particular areas.

Job Responsibilities
  • To provide a specialised psychological assessment and therapy to the clients of the Iris Care Group Group
  • To work autonomously in accordance with The British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles & Guidelines 2004 and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures
