Job summary
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an experienced registered children's nurse to join the Paediatric Recovery Team within Child Health, Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse.

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse, you would lead the recovery team on shift to deliver a high standard of care to paediatric patients in the post-operative period. Our recovery service is child and family centred and located within the theatre environment.

You will support a small team of experienced nurses to recover paediatric elective and emergency theatre cases within Child Health.

This role will require acute airway management of children post-operatively and the rapid assessment of post-anesthetic patients. You will be part of the core paediatric nursing recovery team who are highly skilled and supportive.

You will have the opportunity to work within a broad multidisciplinary team including surgeons, anesthetists and theatre practitioners in the recovery of children post theatre. You will be expected to utilise management and leadership skills to support with service delivery.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will be expected to lead the team during your shift, demonstrating the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with patients, carers, and members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).

You will be responsible for anticipating and preparing for patient discharges from the unit, including the implementation of nurse-led discharges.

A key expectation of the role is to lead safe and effective patient flow into and out of the Paediatric Recovery.

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you are also expected to ensure that a high standard of care is consistently delivered to all patients.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Practice

• To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times.
• To demonstrate clinical expertise in the care of any patients receiving treatment in the ward/ department.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on the Ward on an ongoing basis, co-ordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team.
• To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about the patients condition, promptly report changes and instigate remedial action as appropriate.
• To act as a resource person to others, providing accurate information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team, patients and their relatives.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential

• 1st level Registered Paediatric Nurse with active UK NMC registration
• Further professional studies relevant to the clinical area
• Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification

Desirable

• Degree in Nursing or Equivalent

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area.
• Demonstrable interest in and commitment to the professional development of others.

Skills and Competencies
Essential
