Job summaryThe post-holder will be responsible to the Consultant team with a senior consultant mentor aligned to the applicants chosen sub-speciality interest.
Please note that although the primary base for this role will be Chorley District Hospital the post holder will be expected to work across both Chorley and Preston sites, as per the service and rota requirements.
This is a fixed term post with the potential to become permanent as we are keen to develop and support our doctors to progress within the trust.
Main duties of the jobTraining opportunities in the following:-
- The Senior Clinical Fellow can expect extensive training in every aspect of respiratory medicine, including lung cancer, pleural diseases, tuberculosis, asthma, COPD, sleep, ventilation and ILD.
- There will be plenty of opportunity to learn various skills related to interventional pulmonology, Non-invasive ventilation and airways management.
- Performance and interpretation of lung function tests and sleep studies.
- Opportunity to learn ultrasound evaluation of pleural diseases and ultrasound guided pleural biopsy/ chest drain insertion, under the guidance of a Specialist Chest Radiologist.
- Special experience in their chosen sub-speciality.
- Involvement in MDT working and meetings.
- Lancashire Teaching Hospitals respiratory department delivers a significant component of year 3 and 5 undergraduate education for Manchester Medical School which the SCF will have involvement in.
- There is time for research to support the delivery of abstracts, presentation and publications with linkages to our local universities.
AuditThe post-holder will be supported to perform an audit project in Respiratory Medicine whilst in post.
Educational SupervisionThe Senior Clinical Fellow will be supervised by the lead consultant for their chosen specialty. Individual appraisals and regular CPD meetings will carried out to support the SCF.

The Senior Clinical Fellow posts support clinical and academic development for the trainees in respiratory medicine as well as their chosen clinical sub-specialty. The posts' duties include middle grade inpatient care, sub-speciality clinics, general thoracic clinics, delivery of undergraduate medical education and supported research time.
The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust has a significant transformation project underway and the SCFs will be involved in delivering acute care through the Respiratory assessment Unit and supporting consultant led weekend inpatient ward rounds.
