Job Summary
This exciting opportunity offers a unique development opportunity for doctors at Resident Doctor non-training grade. It combines in-hours clinical work with an opportunity to obtain a funded Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PG Cert Med Ed) with the University of Leicester.

For all substantive roles, new staff (excluding medical staff) are appointed subject to a 6-month probationary period (see Probation Policy).

All jobs will require permission to work in the UK.

For all jobs the cost of any DBS disclosure required will be met by the individual. This will be deducted from salary once started.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Daily medical cover for step-down rehabilitation patients in community hospitals.
  • Working within an MDT framework to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Escalation of clinical concerns to the ward consultant as required.
  • Participation in biweekly consultant/GP-led ward rounds.

Medical Education Responsibilities
  • Optional one session (am/pm) per week dedicated to completing a PG Cert in Medical Education at Leicester University (fully funded).
  • Supporting the learning needs of undergraduate medical and nursing students on placement.
  • Opportunity to engage in formal and informal teaching sessions.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Has either successfully completed the UK Foundation Programme with ARCP Outcome 1
  • Primary medical qualification
  • Full registration GMC with License to Practice

Desirable
  • Additional related qualifications, e.g. intercalated degree, BSc, BA, BMedSci or Equivalent

Experience
Essential
  • Interest in/knowledge of the delivery of safe effective healthcare services
  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement
  • Evidence of effective team working and leadership, supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-based assessments
  • Interest in/knowledge of the importance of leadership and management for clinicians
  • Demonstrates basic computer literacy, including electronic communication
  • Communication skills: demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication
  • Able to work in multi-professional teams
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills indicating an analytical/scientific approach
  • Commitment to personal and professional development
  • Organisation and planning: capacity to manage/prioritise time and information effectively,
  • Coping with pressure and managing uncertainty demonstrates initiative and resilience
  • Demonstrates probity: displays honesty, integrity

  • Publications/presentations
  • Evidence of aptitude, interest and experience of undergraduate medical teaching Evidence of feedback for teaching
  • Evidence of achievement outside of medicine
  • Evidence of effective leadership in and outside medicine
  • Evidence of organisational skills not necessarily in medicine

  • Achievements outside of medicine
